They say, eyes are the mirror of your soul. Maybe that’s why everyone likes beautiful, dramatic and sexy smokey eyes; maybe it’s because they are very easy to do. If you disagree, try these 6 steps! Here is how to create perfect smokey eyes in 60 seconds:
- Prep your eyelid with a primer or eyeshadow base to keep the eyeshadow from melting into your eyelid crease as the day goes on.
- Apply eyeliner in either black, brown or gray above the upper lash line, drawing line thicker in the middle of eye.
- Blend in color on bottom lashes with an eyeliner pencil because they’re easiest to smudge. Once the line is drawn, run your finger over it to smudge the line. You can also apply a bit of shadow to get full smudge effect. This is the key to the look.
- Apply light base color over the lids to your brow bone.
- For the smokey effect, blend in a darker eyeshadow color using an eyeshadow brush, starting at your lash line. Blend up into the lash line so the eye liner disappears and stop at the crease.
- Finish with several coats of mascara.
One of my favorite things about smokey eye is that this look is not limited by color. You can use blue, green, purple or any other shade, and some of the most beautiful makeup looks feature light smokey eyes:
It’s just as easy to create a great look for special occasions: simply add a little shimmer to it (looks gorgeous with nude lip):
What Not to Do with Smokey Eyes
- Do not use red or other intense lipstick color with intense smokey eyes; you risk looking trashy.
- Do not overdo mascara. Here is why.
- Do not skip blending: smokey eye is all about “smudged” lines.
