How to Make Your Favorite Makeup Brushes Last Longer appeared first on OLENA.
I’ve always been diligent when it comes to cleaning my makeup brushes. It’s as simple and important to your skin health as brushing your teeth is for the health of your mouth. Needless to say, I was slightly surprised by seeing the stats shared by Stylecaster (courtesy of Anisa International poll):
In a poll conducted with responses of 1,113 women, 61 percent of the women who used brushes admitted to cleaning them less than once a month—or not at all. Eeek. It’s not huge, 22 percent admitted to never cleaning them.
Apparently, reasons for such tremendous lack of personal hygiene vary: from picking up new brushes instead of cleaning them to not knowing they had to be cleaned at all. Some women also complained about drying time…
Let’s correct the lack of education. YouTube is full of “how to” videos and here is a good one to begin with:

Other Things You Can Do to Help Your Favorite Brushes Last Longer
Storing of makeup brushes properly is very important as the bristles are very delicate and often soft. Make sure all the brushes are dried completely and allow the brushes to dry naturally (no blowdrying).
Brushes are meant for multi-tasking, you should avoid doing this each and every time. Keep separate set of brushes for different purposes and avoid using the same brush for everything. Natural hair brushes should be used for application of concealers and loose powders while synthetic ones can be used for liquid eyeliners and lipsticks.
Stop being aggressive with your brushes. When you apply makeup, do not use them aggressively this will make the hairs bend and spread.
A synthetic brush lives longer than natural hair brushes.
Bristles of synthetic brush are made of nylon and polyester that do not get destroyed fast. Washing and drying process is very easy and quick with synthetic makeup brushes.Plastic covers are best for brushes you currently don’t use. You usually get a plastic cover when you buy the brushes. No matter whether it’s a hard plastic cover or a disposable one; makeup brushes should be kept in them to maintain the shape.
Makeup brushes are very sensitive and should not be exposed to sunlight or excessive heat. There are chances of bacteria accumulating on them so brushes might expire sooner due to exposure to heat and sunlight.
And finally, it might sound obvious, but try not to share your brushes with others. Bacteria and sweat can cause skin irritation and even skin conditions. Just like buying a toothbrush, it’s best to invest into an individual set of makeup tools.
