Best Nail Polish Colors for Summer Tan appeared first on OLENA.
A few days ago I posted the above photo from weheartit.com on my Facebook page: it was the most “summer-spirited” picture I saw that day. Looking at the storm of comments that followed I got inspired to pick the best colors for tanned hands and beach ensembles.
Nail polish colors should flatter, or at least compliment the wearer’s skin tone. Different nail polish colors flatter different skin tones, varying from light to black. Picking nail colors for tanned skin is not always straightforward. While bright (nearly neon) nail polishes look fantastic against beach sand, city fashionstas attending city pool parties may opt in for an entirely different palette. Besides, your tan can change throughout the summer going from light to medium and dark, and back.
Now let’s have a look at colors that are best for your skin tone:
Fair Skin Tones

Fair skin often burns easily, has freckles and a blue undertone that may not disappear under tan. Women with light or fair skin tones appear to be the luckiest since they can apply most colors to their nails. They can wear whatever is trendy. It’s worth noting that they are advised to stick to nail colors that have a blue base; they complement a light complexion without overpowering or making it appear pasty. Similarly, some other specific polish colors are preferable for fair skin tones, i.e. red, light/medium pink, pastels, plums.
If you are like me, you are lucky if you tan at all in summer so you can use the same favorite colors you wear all year round.
Some say that yellow-based and orange-red nail colors are least favorable because they make you look overly pale. But I always wear orange infused reds and can’t get enough of it!
Medium Skin Tones

Your skin tans with effort; look for nail polishes that are inclined towards the metallic.
Some other shades you may want to opt for include bright shades of pink, blue and orange. Also consider light blue.
If possible, avoid navy blue and darker purple as they may wash out the medium skin tone. Yet again, there is no one rule that fits all.

Not sure it’s the best way to describe the skin type but it tans easily and has a yellow undertone.
Bright shades of pink, blue and purple are recommended in this case. Tanned skin is complimented by shades with a yellow undertone; if you follow this rule of thumb, you won’t go wrong but avoiding golden colors may be a smart idea.
Darker Skin Tones

Women with dark skin tones might choose maroons, dark greens and reds. These shades tend to look the best. Choose a chocolate brown shade that isn’t too dark as this is one of your best colors. Avoid silver, white and orange nail polishes (though white and pastels look gorgeous against sand and with colorful beach outfits).
Finally, let’s not forget about nail art. Beach time is the best time to have no rules and go for a colorful design, no matter skin tone and tan!
